Want to provide PAIR at your organization? Here’s some more information about PAIR:
Intervention
The PAIR program was co-created with researchers, community partners, and people with brain injury. The peer support intervention is facilitated by trained peer support workers who have longer experience with brain injury. Participants in PAIR receive 1 on 1 mentorship from a peer support worker who is matched with them, based on relevant demographic characteristics and life circumstances. The program is tailored to meet the needs of participants, and is often conducted weekly (1-hour sessions) for approximately 12-weeks.
Participants
PAIR is recruiting participants between 19-75 years old who sustained a brain injury (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury) within 12 months. Participants need to communicate in English effectively (with or without support from care partner or technology) and be capable to participate in a peer support intervention (e.g., able to cognitively engage in sessions).
Significance
The PAIR will provide evidence for the use of peer support among people living with brain injury. It aims to ease the transition from rehabilitation centres to the community, ensuring better provision of services, and, ultimately, improving the health and quality of life of people living with brain injury.
